Conduct User Acceptance Testing for a Financial Services Firm to Ensure Quality and Bring Product to Market on Schedule
The Situation
A Managed Accounts Billing System for a large financial services firm was under development by an outside vendor. The vendor was experiencing coding problems which were impacting the functionality of the billing system and contributing to delays in bringing the product to market for use by the client's financial correspondents.
The Challenge
Management needed the vendor's product to be delivered on time with the promised functionality in order to meet the needs of their financial correspondents.
The Objective
Business Intelligence Solutions (BIS) was engaged to develop and write test cases that would simulate a financial correspondent's use of the product and its multiple features. Upon each software release, these test cases were used to conduct user acceptance testing of system functionality to identify vendor programming bugs. BIS was also asked to measure the quality of the vendor's software releases.
Resolution
BIS tested the product's functionality and tracked vendor quality over the course of the three-year development process. Using statistical process control charts, BIS tracked the quality of each of the vendor's software developers as they delivered bug fixes and new software releases. With the quality "report card" process in place, the vendor was able to provide feedback to software developers, which contributed to higher quality software releases.
